This week on the bookshelf we are reading Chicks and Salsa by Aaron Reynolds. If you have not read this book, grab a copy and share it with a friend.
The chicks have decided they do not like what the farmer is feeding them. The rooster, (seems to be the problem solver) discovers that the farmer’s wife is watching cooking shows to learn some new recipes. (We all love the cooking channel) The rooster’s solution….SALSA! so the chicks sneak into the garden and get all the fixin’s for salsa. Well….once the ducks get a whiff of the delicious smells they decide they need a new menu as well. So…the ducks sneak into the garden and get fixin’s for Guacamole! Now of course, the pigs, being great eaters that they are, wanted their own Mexican dish so they waited until dark and gathered all of the ingredients to make NACHOS! Well, there are so many great Mexican dishes being served up around the farm that the animals decide to have a FIESTA!!! (Who doesn’t love a party?) Unfortunately, when the animals go to get their ingredients for their party there is a problem! OH NO!!!!
Now in order to find out what happens next, you will have to read the story:)
This book is great for discussing problem and solution. It is also a great story for Cinco de Mayo! Truthfully, it is a great story any time of year!
